We have always dreamed of cycling across the country.  Suddenly it hit us that this would be a good time to do it.  We booked one-way tickets to Portland and now need to start planning.  Although we have done self-contained touring before, we have never done it alone.  We have led many teenagers on such trips to destinations like Baja, New Zealand and the Yucatan.  We say that we are doing this alone, but we are inviting those who have traveled with us in the past and those who wanted to bicycle with us in the past but weren’t able.
