On losing weight
I just read about a couple who are cycling the perimeter of the US to lose weight. The woman lost 47 pounds in 43 days. And it appears that it happened after riding only 1000 miles. How lucky is that? The adventure that these two are taking is supposed to be inspirational. Skeptical Suzi, me, thought seriously about removing that donation button from the site after reading their inspirational site. The Bert Pepsi fund is somewhat of a joke, although we certainly appreciate those donations that we have received from our many fans. The fact is, and this may come as a shocker to those of you who enabled Bert’s Pepsi addiction – he doesn’t drink Pepsi anymore.
Once you stand up again and brush the dirt from yourselves….
So, we will gladly spend those Pepsi funds on other useful things along the way. But, unlike this weightloss couple(yes, I am really jealous that I can’t lose 47 pounds in 43 days) we are not planning this trip without funds. We are too old for that. The weighty couple sells things, requests minimum donations and begs for food and lodging. The media coverage they receives gets them all of the above, but what a way to travel. It may have been fun when we were younger to see how far we could get on very little money. Wait, that is how we lived most of our lives and it really wasn’t too much fun.
Of course, we have a budget, but we have no interest in letting our funds dwindle down to $12 and then expect others to rescue us. If that were the case with us, Bert could always tutor strangers along the way. Think of all the passersby just waiting to find somebody to explain p values to them. I could take photos of this and sell it to the grateful recipient of statistical enlightenment. Surely, people are willing to pay good money for that.
So while it’s good that this couple is addressing their weight challenges, it is always a good idea whether you are fat or skinny to have some funds available for your bicycle tour. So, please send mimimum donations in small unmarked or large marked bills to….
We do have some hosts who are providing us with a bed and food along the way and are looking forward to seeing people we haven’t seen in years. We equally look forward to meeting fellow WSLers, whom we have never met.
Back to fretting about our lack of training.
