Touring Music
Our so has upgraded to an I-Pod Nano and is dumping his Shuffle. That has me thinking of using this on the bicycle, which would add yet another several ounces to weight. I don’t want to simply use this as something that plugs in to my ears and makes me oblivious to my surroundings. That really defeats the point of the tour and prevents me from hearing the sounds along the way. I am considering bringing along some portable speakers and have a set up that would seem to be similar to driving while listening to the radio. I suspect that absorbing the local sounds would still be a possibility with music playing in the background.
I remember music that seemed appropriate for touring. Ventura Highway, Three Little Birds, Gypsy, Take The Long Way Home…….
Of course, I pick up just a few words of the lyrics that seem to apply to a bicycling adventure and that is good enough for me.
Besides more popular music, I definitely will have to find a dirge or two to listen to while climbing endless hills, riding into unrelenting headwinds or simply feeling like not riding at all.
The problem might be that the Shuffle shuffles music and won’t play at my command.
No worries. I can always turn the sound down.
